PhD Topics for LIS

I have students who wish to do PhD approach me for selection of topics. I always think the selection should depend on the students interests rather than the supervisors interests!

But unfortunately most students either have no clue and want the supervisor to choose and handhold them throughout the PhD; while others want to choose PhD topic on easy topics which have been beaten to death like User Study/Digital Library – that too within their local area/state.

There are inumerable topics that can be explored in LIS. I have tried my best to list most of them under various heads.
